Job Summary:
We are looking for a Real Estate Controller to develop accounting policies and oversee all our company's financial procedures. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and will be a key member of the management team out of the Dallas office. The Controller will have the overall responsibility for the timeliness and accuracy of the general accounting functions, including financial statements, A/P, A/R, and the general ledger. They will also need to be a financial leader and original thinker, taking the company through planning, budgeting, and financial modeling exercises.

Responsibilities
- Manage property and corporate accounting departments.
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Analyze existing processes and systems to streamline current systems, leverage new information technology
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure
- Oversees and coordinates client month-end reports and fiscal year-end close processes.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of internal controls over financial and reporting activities.
- Conduct staff annual performance reviews.
- Ensure monthly financial packages, replacement reserve, and construction draws are prepared
Requirements
- Work experience as a Controller or similar role
- Work experience with commercial real estate
- Experience in the same or similar industry, is a strong plus
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills,
- Must have the ability to independently complete multiple complex and challenging financial functions on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 5+ years of experience in real estate accounting
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong written, verbal, and collaboration skills
